You know how it’s difficult to find a decent looking threadless stem for a modern build, when you’re looking. Bulky, angular, clumsy-looking and ugly by most, it really makes it easy to settle for the easy choice – and go for the  obvious. Well, it doesn´t have to be that way. There are plenty of nice-looking, high-quality and fairly beautiful ahead stems out there…or are there?

We took a plunge into the deep end and did some stem sourcing. Some widely available, some ultra rare, some affordable and some extremely expensive, here’s a little cross-section of some of our favorites:

  1. nice post! I owe 6 of above and been loving stems and head-sets ever since. back in the 90s those sort of Ringle or Answer were up to 100€ and still on stock today fo 5€. I also make fillet stems on me own and its such a beautiful piece of work le me tell you!
    I luv stems! cheers

    • Hey Marek! Glad you liked the post. We too love stems as a stem is the single component that can change the look as well as the whole feel of the bike.

I was recently looking for a replacement for my Thomson and was able to find a NOS Ringle. You said you can pick up one for 5€ — we’d love to know that stash!!! Send us some pics of your fillet brazed ones, we’re always interested in custom parts and, who knows, maybe you could sell a few…

      Cheers,
      -mikko

      • hey Mikko,
I’ve checked it today. Its very the same stem body as Ringle but the steering tube clamp is classic bolts from outside.
It’s the Answer stems. massive massive piece of Aluminium actually :P but there’s still plenty of similar stems to find around. I run them all over again and wait what sellers will put to clearance. It’s interesting how such a great components end up on the bottom of shop shelves. anyways, good for us

I’ll drop u some line so..
        Marek..
